Although the honeycomb support band wraps around the entirety of the middle of your foot, there’s no discernible cushion for the top of your boot. However, one area where the Merino Calf socks fall behind traditional hiking socks is in their top cushioning. The seamless toe construction is also noticeable, especially if your boots are on the tighter side. I was able to tuck my pants into the tops of the socks and when I took them off I didn’t notice any stretching or altering shape. The mix of underfoot cushion and the honeycomb arch support kept my feet comfortable despite varied terrain that included uneven rocks, roots and patches of ice. These socks managed to contour to my feet as well as the inside of my boot, which resulted in less in-boot slippage. I was most impressed by how warm the Merino Calf socks were considering their slim design and how lightweight they are. I put these socks to the test myself, and was pleased with their performance.
